anna uus elu

Posted 13 March 2015 by theorist & filed under Progress.

Three small wire works I made will be included in a group exhibition that opens tomorrow in Pärnu at Uue Kunsti Muuseum (New Art Museum). The exhibition is called ‘Anna Uus Elu’, which roughly translates as ‘Give New Life’. The idea is to reuse materials, so I made three pieces of jewelry (two necklaces and one pair of earrings) from four kinds of old copper wire and thread.

THERE ARE PARTS OF YOURSELF YOU CANNOT SEE. this i THERE ARE PARTS OF YOURSELF YOU CANNOT SEE. this is a message for those struggling with imposter syndrome or those who envision a future self they cannot quite believe. if you tally everything you know about yourself, it may not add up to the person you want to be and it may leave you feeling defeated. but there are things about yourself you do not know or understand, things you cannot see that make who you are and who you want to be possible. and how could there not be? all of the work your ancestors did over centuries has culminated in you. magical, fallible, learning, stumbling, growing, persisting you.

this is edith, named after lot’s wife — who in this is edith, named after lot’s wife — who in the biblical story is never named (but is called edith in the midrash) and was turned into a pillar of salt for looking back at the city they were commanded to leave. there are various stories explaining why she was turned to salt and why she looked back, but this mother believes she was looking back with longing and worry for her two daughters who chose to stay. and you'll never convince me otherwise.

today is the final day of the EARTHWORKS auction, where you will find edith and a few other works by me and MANY works by a community of 25 artists. bidding ends at 10pm. link in my profile.

The EARTHWORKS auction is now LIVE and runs until The EARTHWORKS auction is now LIVE and runs until 10pm on Sunday, Dec 6. Every purchase benefits the artists, Crealdé, and the Ceramics Studio. The auction team has been working hard on this for the last two months, so I'm anxiously hoping for excellent results for all the artists. These are the five works I've included in the auction: two ceramic pieces, two polymer-litho prints, and one screenprint. While the school is only offering local pickup, I will facilitate shipping to anyone interested in buying one of my pieces. The auction is located at CrealdeCeramics.org, or you can click the EARTHWORKS link in my bio. Thank you!
while this year has been so different from what we while this year has been so different from what we might have imagined back in january, it has definitely lived up to its emperor year title. there were several firsts for me: my first solo show, art award, my first big sculpture sales, and to cap it all off i have organized an online art auction with the ceramics studio at crealdé. i already knew these folks were wonderful artists, and working closely with them on this project has shown me what wonderful people they are, too. it’s been a pleasure and a great learning experience, and here’s hoping it is also a success! the auction, featuring ~100 works by 25 artists, will take place from december 4-6 at crealdeceramics.org. you can sign up there now for an email reminder when the auction goes live. (if you share this in your feeds and stories, i will be eternally grateful!)
