us vs uk: The True History of Tea
October 26, 2009
I’ve been inspired to try out a new kind of post. It may or may not be a regular thing, but I’m interested in comparing US and UK covers of the same book.

printed word is his reward
January 29, 2009
For Publisher Of Literature, Printed Word Is His Reward: What compels a man, 63, to run a side business in publishing books mainly of poems, as well as reprints of classics, in the year 2009? Not money. Orchises, which has published 115 titles, nets about $12,000 annually, so he and his wife, Begoña, who home-schools [...]

college newspapers finally hit
Publishing is hurting. There are layoffs everywhere, newspapers are reducing their pages (The Washington Post‘s Book World didn’t make the grade), magazines are closing up shop… It should come as no surprise, then, that college newspapers have also been hit by the economic downturn. Let’s face it, print publications can’t get buy with just subscriptions, [...]

skimming books
October 28, 2008
I am a cover to cover reader. Sometimes it takes a while to get from cover to cover, but it does eventually happen. Rarely do I abandon a book. And I am not a book skimmer. Being a book skimmer would make my life so much easier this week, but instead I have oodles of [...]

Well, not all gals, just the writing variety. That’s right, Green Lantern Press has issued a call for submissions from female writers: The Green Lantern Press is currently seeking high quality fiction submissions from female authors. Since 2006, The Green Lantern Press has published 7 books in the slow media style. 4 of these have [...]

bookmooch and eco-libris join forces
January 28, 2008
I’ve mentioned both BookMooch and Eco-Libris here before, and Paul of BibliOdyssey fame recently informed me that these two great projects have formed a partnership of sorts. Eco-Libris sells a $1 sticker you can put on the back of a book that indicates that Eco-Libris will plant a tree with that $1. Now, for every [...]

January 22, 2008
The Globe and Mail has launched a new series, The 50 Greatest Books: The 50 will not be ranked in order. We figure just choosing them is adventurous enough. the london book fair
January 16, 2008
The London Book Fair, 14-16 April 2008, Earls Court London. If I had known I couldn’t go this year (I won’t be allowed to fly anymore at that point in the pregnancy), I would have made more of an effort to get there last year. Hindsight’s annoying.
