For Rent is a boardgame/artist’s book that takes players on a journey through the perils of renting – slumlords, crappy roommates, vermin, rude and/or crazy neighbors. Roll the dice and make your way to home ownership as quickly as possible.
I Do (I Don’t):
I Do (I Don’t) is a boardgame/artist’s book that whisks players off on a romantic journey to wedded bliss… actually, that’s a huge lie. Brides must successfully navigate the murky waters of dating to find Mr. Right and make it to their “Big Day” as quickly as possible. Bonus points are awarded for spending the most amount of money. Too bad you can’t use those points to actually pay off your credit card bills after the fact.
The fab Aimee told me about Jen Thomas ages ago. I was slow to feature her as a Friday Artist for no good reason, since I think her work is both clever and skillful. On her Etsy page, she describes herself as “a printmaker, book artist, and storyteller. Most of my pieces combine a variety of media – handmade paper, etching, letterpress, screenprint, and drawing. I try to infuse everything I make with dark humor to make people smile first, then walk away scratching their heads while mulling over the meaning.” Too true!
